Charmain Shepherd

Charmaine is an experienced acupuncturist and Biofeedback practitioner with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. She attended Dr. Bredesen’s training through the Institute of Functional medicine in California in March 2017.

Over the years, Charmaine has moved more to a Functional Medicine approach after graduating from the IFM’s Nutritional Head to toe workshop in 2014.

Dedicated to helping you take control of your own health Charmaine firmly believes in supporting the body’s natural ability to heal using natural remedies, acupuncture, biofeedback, nutrition and lifestyle. She has a sensitive and holistic approach to healthcare journey.

Having originally obtaining her degree in biomedical sciences 22 years ago and having worked for several years in biomedical research, Charmaine’s own health issues began affecting her quality of life. She was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and every aspect of her life was impacted by the condition. With the side effects of medication reducing her quality of life even more, she decided to search for natural approaches. Within a year, she had regained energy, resolved her bowel issues and felt better than ever before.

This wonderful transformation had such a big impact on Charmaine that she gave up her career, focused on research and went on to study acupuncture for 3 years in Asia. Qualified as an acupuncturist in 2005 she became a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC). Being a member of the BAcC means that Charmaine is bound by strict codes of Practice and Ethics. Her own health journey has had an enormous impact on shaping the way in which Charmaine practices.

Charmaine has had extensive training in Singapore, China, Thailand, Switzerland and the UK, introducing her to a wide range of interesting people & cultures.

During her time in Asia, she built expertise in treating a wide variety of complex conditions. Spending time gaining clinical experience at the Shanghai Research Institute of Acupuncture in China, in the Neurology department gave Charmaine very valuable experience in managing complex degenerative conditions. Moreover, the combination of her western medical and complementary training puts her in a unique position to treat very complex conditions.

Charmaine has a very strong personal interest in Alzheimer’s disease as her own family has been affected and Charmaine also has a copy of the APOE4 gene, putting her at risk of developing this devastating disease. Charmaine is therefore dedicated to researching and finding solutions for patients, her family and herself, so that she can carve a different path in the future.

Over the years Charmaine has also refined her practice of Taichi and Qigong and is a qualified Qigong teacher. Her Qigong training has taken her all over the world including Germany, Turkey and Canada.

Because of her background in biomedical sciences, she can combine western methods of diagnostics together with alternative testing to get to the root cause of complex health issues.

Charmaine has a great passion for investigating complex health problems to find tailored solutions that will work.
